Martí Ventolrà

Martí i Ventolrà Fort, in Spanish also Martín Vantolra, ( born December 16, 1906 in Barcelona, † June 5, 1977 in Mexico City) was a Spanish football player.

His son José Vantolra was also footballer and played in the 1970 World Cup for Mexico. Martí on the other hand played at the 1934 World Cup for Spain. Thus the two Ventolrás are the only father-son pair, which started at a World Cup for different teams.

Career

Ventolrà played in his career first, starting with the year 1924, for Espanyol, with whom he 1929, the Copa del Rey and the Catalan Championships won. On 20 June 1930 he graduated from the 3-2 against Italy his first cap for Spain. In the summer of 1930 he joined for three years at the Sevilla FC. For the season 1933/34, the Catalan moved to FC Barcelona. In his first season at Barça he was, with 14 goals in 17 games, the top scorer of his team and fourth in the league scoring charts. Despite his goals this season as Barcelona finished second from bottom of the table.

In the 1934 World Cup, he came to Spain in the quarter- final, in which his team was defeated by eventual winners Italy 0-1, once used. For the national team, he played up to his last international match in 1936 a total of 12 matches in which he scored 3 goals.

In the seasons 1934/35 and 1935/36, he was a total of 17 goals in 41 games, although not as successful as in his first season, but improved to Barça number 6 or 5 of the table. Memorable stay while his four goals in the 5-0 victory against Real Madrid on 21 April 1935 by which he is to present the only player of FC Barcelona, who met in the league more than three times in El Clásico.
