Martin Adler

Martin John Lars Adler ( born October 30, 1958 in Stockholm, † June 23, 2006 in Mogadishu, Somalia ) was a Swedish journalist and photographer.

Adler was born in Stockholm and raised in Västerås. He told of the trouble spots of the world and had worked in many war zones, including in El Salvador, Rwanda, Congo - Kinshasa, Angola, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Chechnya, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Kashmir, Burundi, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea and Iraq. Adler was one of the few journalists who had interviewed the Chechen underground fighters Shamil Basayev.

2001 Eagle of the Media Award from Amnesty International was awarded. He received this award for his report about the abduction and trade in Chinese women. In addition, it was Festival 2001 Silver Prize for Investigative Journalism awarded at the New York TV. In 2004 he was awarded the Rory Peck Award for Hard News for On Patrol with Charlie Company in Iraq.

Martin Adler was murdered on 23 June 2006 by an unknown perpetrator during a demonstration in Somalia's capital Mogadishu. Adler was 47 years old and leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
