Martin Aku

Aku Martin ( born September 25, 1913 in Lome, † 1970 ) was a French - togolese doctor, author, politician and member of the French National Assembly.

Life

He was the son of Togolese pastor Andreas Aku ( from the ethnic group of the Ewe ) from Lomé. This had been ordained there by the North German Missionary Society in 1911. 1928 was brought by his inspection tour in Togo to Bremen Martin Aku Mission Inspector G. Stoevesandt. There he attended the gymnasium and studied from the winter semester 1935/36, medicine in Tübingen. This was followed by a semester in Basel and two in Paris. Finally doctorate Aku 1944 in Marseille to MD, married the doctor later Josèphe Etifier from Martinique in 1945 and returned back to Lome. There he turned to politics and was a representative of the party Comité de l' unité togolaise 1946 to 1951 the French National Assembly. 1952 prevented the French colonial administration 's re-election.

After his return to Lome in 1951 practiced acupuncture at different places in Togo and Ghana, but fell ill and died at the age of 57.

By Martin Aku a short autobiography is in the anthology " Africans tell their life ," ed. Diedrich Westermann in 1938, received. It represents a unique testimony and still waiting for an in-depth exploration.
