Martin Brecht

Martin Brecht ( born March 6, 1932 in Nagold ) is a German Protestant theologian and church historian.

Life

Martin Brecht attended from 1947 to 1951 the high school in the Protestant seminaries Maulbronn and Blaubeuren. He then studied as a fellow of the Evangelical congregation of Protestant Theology in Tübingen. He was then at Tubingen Repetent first, then study inspector and eventually took over as headmaster in 1970 the management of the facility. The supervised by Hanns Rückert dissertation " The Old Library of Tübingen pin in her theology and humanities historical context " in 1961 to Dr. theol. doctorate. 1965 and his habilitation with the work " The Early Theology of Johannes Brenz ." Brecht was appointed in Tübingen in 1971 as an adjunct professor. In 1975 he took over the chair of Church History (with emphasis Reformation and Early Modern ) at the University of Münster. In 1997 he became Professor Emeritus.

As Brecht's major works are the three-volume comprehensive biography of Martin Luther, 1981-1987 ( student edition 1994) and edited by his four -volume history of Pietism appeared ( 1993-2004)
