Martin Brodeur

Martin Pierre Brodeur ( born May 6, 1972 in Montreal, Quebec ) is an American- Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League since 1992.

Career

Martin Brodeur played from 1988 to 1989 at the Montreal Bourassa in the QAAA. His father is the former goalkeeper Denis Brodeur. In 1989, Brodeur to the ice hockey team of the Saint- Hyacinthe Laser in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

He was engaged in the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 in the first round in 20th place by the New Jersey Devils and plays since then for the Devils. In the 1991/92 season Brodeur denied then his first NHL game for the Devils.

1992/93 he played a year in the AHL Utica before he in 1993/94 completely changed to the Devils.

In his move from the minor league to the pros in New Jersey he pushed Chris Terreri from the position of the root goalkeeper and led New Jersey as a rookie in the playoffs, where he could be stopped only in the Conference finals by eventual Stanley Cup champion New York Rangers. 1995, in his second season, he led the Devils to their first Stanley Cup. In 2000 and 2003 he was again Stanley Cup winner. Since joining the NHL Martin Brodeur has in six seasons 40 or more victories achieved ( the next best goalkeepers have a maximum of three 40 victory seasons achieved ) in ten consecutive seasons over 30 wins, a record that no other goalkeeper in the NHL ever has been reached. Brodeur is also the goalkeeper, who can boast the most uninterrupted play-off inserts at all. In the all-time list of the NHL, it ranks (end of season 2009/10) with 602 victories at number one in the playoffs with 99 wins second place in the leaderboard.

In January 2006, the Devils extended its contract with Brodeur ahead to 2011. During summer 2012, he signed another two-year contract with the Devils.

Brodeur celebrated on 1 April 2007 his 46th win of the season against the Boston Bruins. He screwed his personal record to 46 wins per season ( earlier it was 43 wins). On April 5, he sat finally with the 48th win of the season, a new NHL record for wins in the regular season (before Bernie Parent, 47 wins, in 1973/74 ) to give the Vezina Trophy which he won for the third time as the best goalkeeper.

Brodeur had been nominated a total for the ninth time Vezina Trophy as the best goalkeeper for the 2008 NHL. Four times (2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008) he was able to win the trophy. During the 2009/10 season, he broke the shutout record of Terry Sawchuk, who finished 103 games in the NHL without conceding a goal during his active career, and continued until the end of the season with 110 career shutouts set a new record.

Internationally

Brodeur has played twice for Canada at the World Ice Hockey Championship, 1996 and 2005. Represented also twice Brodeur his country at the World Cup of Hockey, 1996 and 2004.

At the Olympics, Brodeur was four times running, in 1998 as the third goalkeeper, he won in 2002 as the first goalkeeper gold. In 2006 he again played the first goalkeeper, but different with the Canadians in the quarterfinals of. In 2010 he was Olympic champion as second 'keeper to beat.

  • Brodeur has three goals to his credit.
