Martin Bursík

Martin Bursík ( born August 12, 1959 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech politician. He was from 2005 to 2009 Chairman of the Green Party ( Strana zelených ) and from January 2007 to May 2009 Environment and in November / December 2007 Acting Minister of Education.

Life

In the 1970s Bursík studied Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. In June 1989 he joined the dissident movement and signed the Declaration of movement Hnutí za občanskou Svobodu. During the Velvet Revolution in November of the same year he was one of the founders of the Civic Forum and later the movement Občanské hnutí.

It was in 1998 for 2 months Environment Minister in the cabinet of Josef Tošovský. Then he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Prague and joined the KDU- CSL on. He left the party in 2003. In June 2004 he became a member of the Green Party and was elected party chairman. After the 2006 general election, he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament and called on 9 January 2007 in the second cabinet of Mirek Topolánek.

After his party had reached at the European elections in June 2009, only 2.1%, he stepped back on 8 June 2009 by the Office of the Chairman and announced not to want to run in the parliamentary elections in the fall of 2009.
