Martin Corry (rugby union)

Martin Edward Corry MBE ( born October 12, 1973 in Birmingham) is a former English rugby union player. He played as a second row forward, winger and number eight for Leicester Tigers and spent 10 years active for the English national team.

Career

Corry went to school in Tunbridge Wells, was captain of Northumbria University and played for the U18 and U21 national team of England. He was also in the national England A reserve for use. In 1997 he ran for the first time on the national team against Mr. Argentina. In the same year he moved from Bristol Rugby to Leicester Tigers, where he played for twelve years.

In 2001, Corry was first nominated for a tour of the British and Irish Lions, who led the selection to Australia. He was employed in all games. Clive Woodward took him again to the 2003 World Cup in the squad on. Due to the birth of his first daughter Eve Corry flew back home, but returned during the tournament and celebrated the world title at the end.

England coach Woodward was in 2005, also the coach of the Lions selection and Corry was again part of the squad. The tour to New Zealand ended with three defeats. In the same year he was appointed captain of the England national team and held that office up to the Six Nations in 2007, when it inherited Phil Vickery. Under the new national coach Brian Ashton he was still a part of the English selection and was also taken to the World Cup 2007, when England again reached the final, but there South Africa was inferior. The final was the last international Corrys, however continued his club career.

At the end of the season 2008/ 09 he stopped and with the Rugby Club.
