Martin County (Indiana)

Martin County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Shoals.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-west of Indiana and has an area of 882 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greene County, Lawrence County, Orange County, Dubois County and Daviess County.

History

Martin County was formed on January 17, 1820 from parts of Daviess County and the Dubois County. It was named after John T. Martin, a major from Kentucky.
