Martín de Valencia

Martin de Valencia (* 1473 in Leon, Spain, † 1534 in Veracruz, Mexico) was a Spanish missionary.

Valencia was born in Leon, Franciscans and distinguished himself by his zeal for reform and strict orthodoxy. He ascended to the Spanish religious hierarchy, and introduced the " twelve apostles " to Mexico who arrived in Vera Cruz in May 1524. During the next ten years, Valencia oversaw the baptism of several thousand Indians, with whom he communicated through interpreters.
