Martin Groth

Martin Groth (born 20 October 1969 in Hanover ) is a former German football player.

Groth's career as a professional soccer player began on matchday 33 of the 1987/88 season with coming off the bench in the game against Eintracht Frankfurt Hannover 96. For Hannover 96, he was from 1987 to 1995 in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga active. In 1995 he moved to Hansa Rostock in the 1st Bundesliga. In 1998 he went to Hamburg SV. Overall, the defensive midfielder completed 155 games in the first football league and scored 16 goals in that time. In 208 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Hannover 96 and VfB Lübeck he scored 15 goals. Groth was known as a very fair player. In his 17-year pro career he cashed a total of only 17 yellow cards and not a single red card.

In 1992, he won the DFB-Pokal with the then second division club Hannover 96. In the 2003/2004 season, he led the second division side VfB Lübeck as team captain in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. In 2000 he qualified with Hamburg for the Champions League. After the descent of Lübeck in the Regionalliga he ended his professional career and was transferred for a season at his hometown club SC Langenhagen Niedersachsen in the league. Mid-2005, Groth finished his active football career. In the 2007 /08 season of ex-pro played six games ( no goals ) in the 5th division of the Lower Saxony. In the season 2008/ 09 Groth acts as sporting director of SC Langenhagen in the Oberliga Niedersachsen West.

Martin Groth is also the owner of a sporting goods store in Langenhagen.
