Martin Hermann Faber

Martin Faber (c. 1587; † April 13, 1648 in Emden ) was an architect, painter, cartographer and alderman of the city of Emden in East Frisia.

Life

As the son of a blacksmith and later honorary urban Rentmeisters Hermann Martens Faber likely to Emden born in 1587, Martin Faber left his hometown early to be trained on extensive travels in Italy, France and the Netherlands, his artistic talents accordingly. Among other things, he devoted himself in Rome the engraving.

In 1616 he settled in Emden as a painter and was known as such soon far. In 1618, he joined the painters' guild as a member of Emden, who chose him as their older man later.

From 1626 entrusted him with a number of important public offices, 1630 he was Colonel and in the same year Präses of the Collegium of the forties, the senior representative of the Emden citizenship. In 1631 he was alderman and a year later a deputy for the entire urban fortifications and 1634 municipal architect.

Until his death on April 13, 1648 he was one of the most respected citizens of Emden, and is still one of the most important artists of the city.
