Martin Honert

Martin Honert ( born 1953 in Bottrop ) is a contemporary German artist. In his work, Honert sets apart especially with experiences from his own childhood. Starting from old memories or artefacts created elaborate three-dimensional objects. Unusually for artists whose works are in the tradition of the readymade, Honert made his works always at hand.

Between 1981 and 1988 he studied at the Art Academy Dusseldorf, most recently in the master class with Fritz Schwegler. In 1995 he designed together with Katharina Fritsch and Thomas Ruff the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. In 1998 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in the professional class for three-dimensional work, focus and plastic sculpture.

Martin Honert is represented by the prestigious Matthew Marks Gallery in New York. He lives and works in Dusseldorf and Dresden.
