Martin Kariya

Martin Tetsuya Kariya ( born October 5, 1981 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player ( striker ). He currently plays for HC Ambri -Piotta in the Swiss National League A. He is the younger brother of Paul and Steve Kariya.

Career

Although he plays like his older brothers as a left winger, but shoots unlike them with the right. His second first name Tetsuya comes from the fact that his father has Japanese ancestors. When he scored 14 goals at the University of Maine in 39 games and made 50 points, he was named to the Portland Pirates ( AHL ) transferred and played three playoff games. He then scored no points and was transferred to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers ( AHL ). There he played in 70 games and scored 8 goals and 17 assists put before. The Scouts of the NHL took notice of him and he was drafted in the 2005/06 season by the New York Islanders.

During the lockout Martin Kariya played in Japan at the Nikko Ice Bucks and was able to achieve 18 points scorer in 15 games. The following season, the management of Stjernen Hockey took him under contract. A further step in the direction of the NHL, he made the move to the Espoo Blues, where he was top scorer of the SM - liiga 2006/ 07.

For the 08/ 09 season of Canadians signed a one -year contract with the SCL Tigers in the National League A. After one season to the Latvian KHL Dinamo Riga Kariya returns in 2010 to Switzerland, where he expected to be for two years at HC Ambri -Piotta will play.
