Martin Koch (ski jumper)

Martin Koch (born 22 January 1982 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ski jumper. He jumped for the SV Villach.

Career

His first international successes he achieved in 1998 and 1999, when he was in each Junior World Champion with the Austrian team. After your first wager in the Ski Jumping World Cup for the first time, he could show properly and reached his first podium in Engelberg also qualified for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City in the 2001/ 02 season. After three less successful years, he fought his way back into the Austrian team and became a member of the national team of the Austrian Ski Federation, together with Thomas Morgenstern, Andreas Kofler and Andreas Widhölzl team Olympic gold medalist at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. In the Ski Flying World Championships 2008 in Oberstdorf was cooking Vice World Champion in individual and team world champion with the Austrian team. Also at the Ski Flying World Championships 2010 he won with the Austrian team to the world title. When ski flying in Harrachov on 8 January 2011 Koch took his first World Cup victory ahead of his compatriot Thomas Morgenstern. On March 11, 2012, he won at the Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway after three wins in ski flying for the first time jumping on a large hill. In April 2012, he announced to continue his career at least for one more season, even though he had previously to fight several times with back problems.

Since his basic training in the summer of 2001 in Mautern he is hired as a regular soldier in the Austrian army and stationed in the Army Sports Centre Rif near Salzburg. At the University of Klagenfurt Martin Koch studied economics and law. He is the nephew of Armin Kogler.

He ended his career with a farewell ski jump at the 22.03.2014 at the World Cup finals in Planica, Slovenia.
