Martin Mathathi

Martin Irungu Mathathi ( born December 25, 1985 in Nyahururu ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner.

He was fifth in the 10,000 m at the 2005 IAAF World Championships in Helsinki. On November 23 this year, he put together with Josphat Muchiri Ndambiri, Daniel Muchunu Mwangi, Mekubo Mogusu, Onesmus Nyerre and John Kariuki in Chiba 1:57:06 h with a world record in the marathon relay on. In 2006 he won the bronze medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Fukuoka.

In 2007, he started again in the 10,000 m at the World Championships in Osaka. In this race Mathathi drew three laps to go the pace, and only Kenenisa Bekele and Sileshi Sihine could follow him. In the final sprint Mathathi subject but then the sprint stronger Ethiopians and was third in 27:12,17 min. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he was the same distance seventh.

In 2010 he won the Parelloop and the Sendai Half Marathon. A second place at the Sapporo Half Marathon followed the victory at the last edition of the Nagoya Half Marathon.

In 2011 he won the Gifu Half Marathon and was fifth in the 10,000 m at the World Championships in Daegu. In the autumn he set track records on the Great North Run and the Great Edinburgh Run.

Martin Irungu Mathathi is 1.65m and weighs 49 kg. He starts for the corporate team of Suzuki.
