Martin Olav Sabo

Martin Olav Sabo ( born February 28, 1938 in Crosby, Divide County, North Dakota) is an American politician. Between 1979 and 2007 he represented the state of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Martin Sabo attended until 1955 the Alkabo High School and thereafter until 1959, the Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He studied there until 1960 at the University of Minnesota. After his study time, Sabo decided for a career in politics. He was a member of the Democratic Party, which in Minnesota is called since a merger in 1944, the Democratic - Farmer-Labor Party.

Between 1960 and 1978, Sabo sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Minnesota; 1969 to 1972 he was Group Head of the Democrats from 1973 to 1978, he served as president of the house. Sabo was also a member of a commission that dealt with national relations within the United States (Commission on Intergovernmental Relations ). He was also president of a national association of all parliamentary representatives of the American states ( National Conference of State Legislatures ).

1978 Sabo was in the fifth electoral district of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Donald M. Fraser on January 3, 1979. After 13 re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 2007, a total 14 contiguous legislatures. Between 1993 and 1995 he was chairman of the Budget Committee. Sabo was considered very liberal. In 2006 he forgo a bid again.

Since 2008, Martin Sabo works for the Bipartisan Policy Center. He is deputy head of a national project, which deals with transport problems. Sabo is married to Sylvia Ann Lee; the couple has two children and six grandchildren.
