Martin Plaa

Martin Plaa ( born March 12, 1901 in Bidart, † March 29, 1978 ) was a French tennis player and coach of the 1920s and 1930s.

Career

As a professional tennis player Plaa could not participate in the tournaments of the ITF in the period before the Open Era. In 1931, he won the French championship of professionals in Paris. 1932 and 1934 he succeeded there, the finals. In 1932 he also won the World Championships in Berlin professionals.

Although he was excluded as a professional player is also from the active participation in the Davis Cup, he worked for some time as coach of the successful French Davis Cup team to René Lacoste, Henri Cochet, Jean Borotra and Jacques Brugnon, called "The Four Musketeers".

Plaa died of a heart attack at the age of 77 years.
