Martin Poll

Martin Poll ( * November 24, 1922 in Manhattan, New York City, † April 14, 2012 ibid ) was an American film producer.

Life

Poll studied at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a degree in economics. He then served in the Army and then worked for several years with his aunt, who worked on Broadway as a producer. Poll started his own producer career in the 1950s, first for television. First, he was involved as a producer on a Flash Gordon series.

The mid-1950s he bought in New York City, the biographer Studio, this restored and opened in 1956 with the Gold Medal Studios own production company. This was one of the largest outside of the film industry in Hollywood. It was here that films such as A Face in the Crowd (1957 ) and Butterfield 8 ( 1960). At the beginning of the 1960s Poll sold his company and took on a Produzentätigkeit in Hollywood. Under his participation arose more than a dozen film and TV productions, most recently made ​​its appearance in 2003.

1969 Poll was nominated for the film The Lion in Winter for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The film was also honored in 1970 with a David di Donatello for Best Foreign Language Film.

Poll was married and the father of two biological sons. He and his wife adopted a third child.
