Martin Richards (producer)

Martin " Marty " Richards ( born March 11, 1932 as Morton Richard Klein, † November 26, 2012 ) was an American producer of musicals and movies.

Life

Since the early 1970s Richards worked as a producer of films, plays and musicals in particular. Among the most famous productions in which he participated, were about the Broadway performances of Chicago (1975-1978), Sweeney Todd (1979-1980), La Cage aux Folles (1983-1987) and Grand Hotel (1989-1992). For many of his productions, he was awarded the important theater prices Tony Award and Drama Desk Award.

His biggest success was the movie musical Chicago in the year 2002. Richards won for an Oscar in the category Best Film. The film was nominated in 13 categories and won a total of six awards. At the Golden Globe Awards 2003 the film was nominated eight times and won three trophies, including the Prize for Best Film - Comedy or Musical for the best production.
