Martin Schaffner

Martin Schaffner (* 1478, † after 1546 in Ulm ) was a German painter and sculptor, which is attributed to the Ulm school.

Life

Schaffner accurate survival data are similar to his training is not known. But maybe he was a disciple Bartholomew Zeitblom. Schaffner is detectable only in 1499 as a painter with Jörg Stocker in Ulm. Thus we find his signature on the Ennet Acher altar created by Stocker. Schaffner later changed to another Ulmer workshop to eventually work in Augsburg, Hans Holbein the Elder. From the style of the latter, his own work is also influenced by how Albrecht Dürer and Hans Burgkmair. To show his paintings from 1510 a clean design perspective; the figures are plastic, its color is of gentle harmony.

A document from 1526 refers to him as the city of Ulm painter. The last him safely attributable works date from the year in 1535., But He still has at least 10 years have lived longer, as he is called in a screening list of 1546 in particular.
