Martin Schanche

Martin Schanche (pronounced Skanke ) ( born January 1, 1945 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian former race car driver and current politician. He was six-time European Rallycross Champion.

Career

The in the village Leirpollskogen ( Austertana ) in Finnmark grown Schanche Martin was named one of the Norwegian newspaper VG ( Verdens Gang ) in his own country's top ten famous Norwegians. Its popularity as a motor sports enthusiasts there is comparable to that of Michael Schumacher in Germany. Schanche contested between early 1978 and late 2001 as a racing pro almost all rounds of the European Rallycross, secured it a total of six FIA European Championship title for Rallycross drivers (1978, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1991 and 1995). He is still regarded as the ambassador of this discipline, which is also his nickname " Mister Rallycross " illustrates.

He lives with his German -born wife and their daughter in Drøbak (Province of Akershus ) on the Oslo Fjord for some years. From a previous marriage Schanche has another son and a daughter. Since his retirement from motor sport, he is active in his community as a local politician Frogn of Frp.
