Work

An important part of his work represent portraits, which he calls " close-ups ", spectacular close-ups of famous personalities such as Bill Clinton, Jack Nicholson, Jon Bon Jovi or Angelina Jolie. In Germany these recordings have become known through an extensive photo spread in the magazine Stern (no. 27 /2005). His paintings he describes himself as: "I think my pictures are not unfair the contrary, I think they try to be honest. . "

Martin Schoeller used for its close-ups always the same special technique: It measures the eye level of his opponent and then brings the camera lens exactly at the same height. Instead of a camera flash used Schoeller soft neon light. By reducing the photographed people on the face Schoeller want to show that behind the celebrity facade put ordinary people.
