Martin Shaw

Martin Shaw ( born January 21, 1945 in Birmingham ) is a British actor. He became known in Germany by the British crime drama television series The Professionals ( The Professionals ) in the role of CI5 agent Ray Doyle, whom he portrayed from 1977 to 1981.

Life

Shaw studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art After graduating, he quickly got roles in theater, including Look Back in Anger ( Look Back in Anger ) and A Streetcar Named Desire (A Streetcar Named Desire ). He had his first major television role as a hippie student Robert Croft in the British television series Coronation Street.

Shaw played in 1971 in Roman Polanski's Macbeth filming the role of Banquo.

From 1977 to 1983, he played one of the lead roles ( Ray Doyle) in the series The Professionals ( The Professionals ), which made him famous worldwide. The producers wanted to Anthony Andrews undertake the role of Willam Bodie, but this did not get on with Shaw. For this reason, Lewis Collins was chosen because he very well understood with Shaw and at the same time was also a completely different character. These different traits were incorporated accordingly in the series in the dialogues. In each episode there are several dialogues that lead only Collins and Shaw together, mostly in the car. Therefore, Shaw could be grown and counter- script their hair long and went more in Gammel look on, Collins, however, with a short mane and often tailor-made suits, or designer clothes. At the same time was always trying to point out that Shaw was the more intellectual of the two. Shaw did not like his role as a violent cop actually and urged early return to the theater, so that the series has ended after four seasons.

After the series ended, he initially focused again more to the theater and played among other Elvis Presley in the play Are You Lonesome Tonight?. In the 1990s he also returned back to the TV screen back, for example, in The Chief, Rhodes ( as Cecil Rhodes, along with his son Joe as a young Cecil Rhodes) or Always and Everyone.

More recently, he played Commander Adam Dalgliesh in the BBC adaptations of two novels by PD James, Death in Holy Orders and The Murder Room.

Since autumn 2005, Martin Shaw is the first time in years on the stage as Sir Thomas More in A Man for All Seasons by Robert Bolt, along with his daughter Sophie, who plays Mores daughter Margaret. The West End premiere took place at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket on 3 January 2006. The piece is on the Schedule up to and including April 2006.

On January 6, 2006 Martin Shaw returned with the fifth season of the popular Court Judge John Deed series as the title character back into British television back more seasons are apparently planned.

Since June 14, 2009 Martin Shaw is on ZDF in the BBC series Inspector George Gently - to see The Incorruptible ( Inspector George Gently ). The series takes place in the middle of the 1960s.

In addition to acting for film and theater, he has also participated in several audio books, including works by Thomas Hardy, Oscar Wilde, Ken Follett or by JRR Tolkien.

Martin Shaw has been married three times and divorced twice. From his first marriage with Jill Allen, he has three children ( Luke, Joe and Sophie ), who have also taken the profession of acting. He is currently with his third wife, Vicky Kimm, married.
