Martin Stranzl ( born June 16, 1980 in Güssing ) is an Austrian football player. The central defender plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Association

Martin Stranzl began his football career at age six with his hometown club SV Güssing, from which he came into the BNZ Burgenland. At the age of 16, he completed a trial with German Bundesliga side TSV 1860 Munich and eventually moved to Germany in February 1997. Initially housed with a host family, he finished his education and made ​​the ascent of the junior teams over the amateur team to the Bundesliga. He made his debut on 1 May 1999 against Hansa Rostock. The following season, he was soon a regular player.

After the Munich 2004 descent Martin Stranzl went to Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart. The Schwaben Stranzl first played two seasons in the UEFA Cup, before moving to the Russian first division club Spartak Moscow in March 2006. In Moscow, the central defender was runner-up three times, once reached the FA Cup final and also played in the main round of the UEFA Champions League.

During the winter break 2010/11 Stranzl moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach and thus back to the Bundesliga. In the 2012/13 season, he ran several times as captain of Mönchengladbach.

National

In the Austrian national team of Burgenland first came on 29 March 2000 in a 1-1 draw against Sweden for use. Martin Stranzl prepared the Austrian hits and was since then a regular player on the team. He completed a total of 56 matches and came in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup as a defensive player also to two goals. Interrupted was his time in the national team through several injury breaks, including through a torn ACL and a torn ligament.

On 11 November 2009 Stranzl resigned from the national team.
