Martin Suter

Life

After training as a copywriter Martin Suter was creative director of the renowned Basel advertising agency GGK age of 26. Together with Robert Stalder, he founded the advertising agency Stalder & Suter and was president of the Art Directors Club of Switzerland. In parallel, he has always written, among other reports for the magazine Geo and numerous screenplays for film and television.

Since 1991, Martin Suter works as an author. From 1992 to early 2004 he was responsible for the weekly column " Business Class " in the world week until April 2007 she appeared in the magazine of the Tages-Anzeiger. In 1995, Suter for the price of Austrian industry in Joseph Roth Competition in Klagenfurt. Selected business class columns are available in book form. For the monthly magazine NZZ Folio, he wrote columns under the title " Live Right with Geri Weibel ."

The real breakthrough as a writer succeeded him in 1997 with his first novel, Small World, which - like all the works since then - Diogenes Verlag in Zurich appeared. Small World, The dark side of the moon and a perfect friend connect detective story, which plays a minor role, with social and medical critical approaches. Suter himself describes these first three novels as " neurological trilogy " because the protagonist had to fight each with identity crises. For Small World Suter was awarded in 1997 with the honorary award of the Canton of Zurich and in 1998 with the French Prix du premier roman étranger. Small World was filmed in 2010 by French director Bruno Chiche with Gérard Depardieu and Alexandra Maria Lara in the lead roles. A perfect friend was filmed in France under the title Un ami parfait by Francis Girod.

With the Swiss musician Stephan Eicher Suter worked for his published in April 2007 album Eldorado, for which he wrote some lyrics. Some of the new songs ( Charlie ) was introduced in 2006 during an exclusive concert at the Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne Eicher; the lyrics written by Suter single "I know what it nid isch " was released along with the album 2007.

For the Theater am Neumarkt Zurich Suter also wrote two comedies: Take to the skies (2004) and mummies (2006), with whom he also celebrated as a playwright success.

The German Thriller Prize ( National 2) he received in 2003 for A perfect friend. 2007 Suter was awarded for his novel The Devil of Milan by Friedrich Glauser Prize.

2010 Martin Suter received the Swift Award for Business satire of Market Economy Foundation for his satirical column Business Class on the weaknesses of the Manager caste. Martin Suter was in January 2011 by Swiss Television Award as regular best-selling author and most successful writers of Switzerland with the Swiss Award 2010 in the category culture.

Martin Suter lives with his second wife, the fashion designer Margrith Nay Suter, and his adopted daughter alternately in Ibiza and in Panajachel on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. In 2009, his adopted son in a accident.
