Martin Winterkorn

Martin Winterkorn ( born May 24, 1947 in Leonberg ) is a German manager, since 1 January 2007 CEO of Volkswagen AG since November 25, 2009 CEO of Porsche Automobil Holding SE.

Career

1966 Winterkorn began a study of metallurgy and metal physics at the University of Stuttgart. 1973-1977 he was a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research, where in 1977 Dr. rer. nat. received his doctorate.

After working in research at Robert Bosch GmbH, he joined in 1981 as the Assistant Director of Quality Assurance at Audi. In early 1988 he became head of the "central quality assurance " and two years later appointed head of Audi quality assurance.

In 1993 he became head of " Group Quality Assurance " at Volkswagen. In March 1994 he was appointed General Representative of Volkswagen AG, in June 1995, in addition to the person responsible for the product management of the Volkswagen Group. In January 1996 Winterkorn became brand manager for the " Technical Development " at the Volkswagen brand. As of July 2000, he was a member of the VW Group's Executive Board for the business " research and development".

On 1 March 2002 Winterkorn became chairman of the board of Audi AG. He led the brand newly formed group on 1 January 2002, Audi, were among the next Audi Seat and Lamborghini brands. He also headed since January 1, 2003, "Technical Development " by Audi. In his capacity as CEO of Audi AG Winterkorn sat since the board of Volkswagen AG.

After the approval of the Supervisory Board of 17 November 2006, he took effect on 1 January 2007, the successor of the VW Group CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder as CEO of Volkswagen AG. In 2003 Winterkorn title of Honorary Professor of Technology and Economics Budapest University was awarded. On August 1, 2004, he was appointed Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Dresden for the field of lightweight materials in vehicle construction. He is also a member of the University Council at TU Dresden.
