Martina Beck

Martina Beck, born Glagow ( born September 21, 1979 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen ) is a former German biathlete.

Life

Martina Beck grew after short stays in Ulm and Murnau - due to her father's profession in the army - in Mittenwald on. At the first school cross country race she took part in the fourth grade. For the sport of biathlon she was discovered by coach Jörg Brandt.

From 1990, Martina Beck attended the gymnasium of St. Irmengard School in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. It was incorporated into the C- squad of the German Ski Association in 1996 and opted for a career in sports. In August 1996, she was (currently Federal Police ) set at the Sports School of the Federal Bad Endorf as police chief contender. In September 2000, the 1.58 meter tall athlete passed the final examination for police champion.

Martina Beck is married to the former Austrian biathlete Günther Beck since July 24, 2008. On 1 April 2011 their first daughter was born, and on September 16, 2012 came their second daughter into the world. Beck has a younger sister and lives in Höhnhart since the end of August 2010.

Career

Already at junior level Martina Beck was four -time World Champion. In the Biathlon World Championships 2001 in Slovenia Pokljuka her breakthrough came when she was second in the mass start. At the 2003 World Championships in Russia's Khanty-Mansiysk she became world champion in the pursuit alongside the simultaneous Frenchwoman Sandrine Bailly. In the season 2002/2003 they became the first German overall World Cup and beyond the persecution World Cup.

Also at the Biathlon World Championships 2004 in Oberhof, she was the most successful German biathlete with a silver and two bronze medals. From the beginning of her sporting career to groomed father Martin Glagow as Skitechniker their skis at all competitions and worked for many years for them as a manager.

At the 2005 World Championships in Hochfilzen she was unable to attend due to illness. For them, Andrea Henkel moved into the German team, the world champion in the individual later. At the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin Beck won at the venue Cesana San Sicario three silver medals in the individual, in the pursuit and in the relay. Also at the 2007 World Championships in Antholz, she won three medals. She won gold in the relay, silver in the mass start and bronze in the individual race. Their strength as one of the best shooters in the entire field of participants of the World Cup they put in the 2008 World Championships in Östersund again demonstrated when she won the silver medal in the individual race. In the relay race as she defended first leg on the same team as last year for the title.

The 2007/08 season began Beck with two wins and a third place in the first three races in Kontiolahti. Two more podiums in Pokljuka and the World Cup race in Östersund and eight place in the top ten brought her winning the individual World Cup this season.

In 2010 she won along with Kati Wilhelm, Simone Hauswald and Andrea Henkel the bronze medal in the biathlon relay at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

With the conclusion of the World Cup season 2009/10 Beck finished her career as a professional athlete.
