Martinikerk (Doesburg)

The Grote of Martinikerk (large or Martini Church ) is the main church of the Dutch town of Doesburg.

History

The Martinikerk had a previous building, which was destroyed by a flood in 1340. The present church dates mainly from the 15th century, the tower was completed in 1430. In 1483 the church was damaged by fire, in 1547 again after a lightning strike. The terms of lost vaults until 1888 replaced by a wooden structure. 1586 the Reformation was introduced. The tower was shot in 1672 by acts of war on fire in 1717 again suggested the flash on. The first church in the Netherlands in 1783 received the Martinikerk a lightning rod. 1945 German troops blew up the tower, which the nave was also damaged. The reconstruction of the tower was completed in 1965, completed the renovation of the church as a whole in 1972.

Equipment

In the church there are three organs: a large organ in the west gallery, an organ dating from 1953, built by the organ builder Flentrop, and a historic one-manual instrument from the 1800s.

The main organ was built in 1916 by the organ builder EF Walcker & Cie. built. The instrument has a total of 66 registers, plus three transmissions from the main plant in the pedal mechanism, and 7 transmissions from the manual works II - IV, which form the Schwellwerkspedalwerk.
