Martins Ferry is a city on the Ohio River in Belmont County in the U.S. state of Ohio. Martins Ferry has good 7,200 inhabitants (as of the 2000 census ), making it the largest town in County Belmont.

The poet James Wright, who was born in Martins Ferry in a working class family and grew up there during the Depression, wrote "Autumn Begins in Martins Ferry, Ohio " one of his most famous poems. History

The place was first settled in the 1780s at the latest by White; the settlement was called Norristown.
