Martita Hunt

Martita Hunt ( born January 30, 1900 in Buenos Aires, † June 13, 1969 in London) was a British actress.

Life

A native on a ranch in Argentina, she came at the age of 10 years with her parents in their home and grew up in Eastbourne. In a short thriller she gave her film debut in 1920, in 1921 she made her debut in theater as a member of the Liverpool Repertory Company.

In 1923 she first appeared in London's West End. The local stages and in 1929 the Old Vic Theatre were henceforth their favorite venues. Her roles included the title character in The beautiful Helena, Portia in The Merchant of Venice, the nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Othello Emilia, Countess Aurelia in The Madwoman of Chaillot and Masha in The Seagull. In 1949 she received a Tony Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Madwoman of Chaillot.

Since 1932 she was a busy actress in film. She played strange, quirky, sometimes creepy older women, often nobles or rich inheritance antenna.
