Marty Napoleon

Marty Napoleon ( born June 2, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is a retired American pianist and bandleader of the Oldtime Jazz and Swing.

Life and work

Marty Napoleon is the brother of Teddy and the nephew of Phil Napoleon.

He played at the beginning of his career in 1941 with Bob Astor and 1942 with Chico Marx (along with Barney Kessel and George Wettling ). He then worked for Georgie Auld, Joe Venuti, Charlie Barnet and in other bands. In 1946, he released his brother from when Gene Krupa, then worked with his uncle Phil in its original formation Memphis Five, 1950 with Charlie Ventura and 1951 with the formation of The Big Four ( with Ventura, Buddy Rich and Chubby Jackson). 1952/53, he played with Louis Armstrong's All Stars where he replaced Earl Hines. After Napoleon had his own ensemble, with whom he performed in New York at The Metropole Club. At times he worked in the late 1950s with Charlie Shavers and Coleman Hawkins. In 1959 he had his own trio. From 1966 to 1971 he joined again with Louis Armstrong, where he replaced the late Billy Kyle.
