Marty Russo

Anthony Martin " Marty " Russo ( born January 23, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American politician. Between 1975 and 1993 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Marty Russo visited the St. Ignatius School until 1961 in Chicago. After a subsequent law degree from DePaul University and his 1967 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Chicago in this profession. From 1971 to 1973 he was deputy in Cook County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1974, Russo was in the third electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert P. Hanrahan on January 3, 1975. After eight re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1993 nine legislative sessions. Since 1979 he was a member of the Committee on Ways and Means. He was involved in the drafting of the tax reform of 1986. Russo was also Deputy Chairman of the Subcommittee on Health and Chairman of the Commission for income security. He campaigned for universal health care.

In 1992, Russo was not nominated by his party for re-election. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he spent 18 years working as a lobbyist for the firm Cassidy & Associates; until the end of 2010, he served as the Chief Executive Officer. He now lives in McLean ( Virginia).
