Martyn Poliakoff

Martyn Poliakoff ( born December 16, 1947) is a British chemist. Since 1979 he is professor at the University of Nottingham, where he conducts research on chemical applications of supercritical fluids with a focus on Green Chemistry. Popularity outside of his field Poliakoff became the host of the video series Periodic Videos ( originally The Periodic Table of Videos ) by Brady Haran, which is published on YouTube since 2008.

Scientific career

Poliakoff studied at King's College, Cambridge, where in 1969 he achieved his bachelor's degree and received his doctorate in 1973. Topic of his thesis was supervised by Jim Turner, the matrix isolation of large molecules.

Since 1972, he worked as a researcher ( Researcher / Senior Research Officer ) of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1979 he joined as a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham, where he was promoted to Reader in 1985 and 1991 as professor of chemistry.
