Martynas Pocius

Martynas Pocius ( born April 28, 1986 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player. Pocius plays on the positions of the Shooting Guards Small Forwards and.

Career

Martynas Pocius played already in the high school age in the United States, in the private Holderness School in Plymouth (New Hampshire). After its launch in 2005, he went to Duke University, where he played under coach Mike Krzyzewski for the Blue Devils in the Atlantic Coast Conference of the NCAA.

In 2009 he finished his studies in comparative international studies and then went back to his home, where he signed with Zalgiris Kaunas. In his first season he won the BBL by 73:66 Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius in the final against, 2010/11 he finally got his team the treble of BBL Championship and National Cup. In summer 2011, Pocius moved to Spanish club Real Madrid, where he signed a contract running until 2013. Already in his first season Pocius could win with his team the trophy. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season followed winning the Spanish Super Cups, he also reached the final of the Euro Real Madrid League and ended the year with a victory in the championship. However, he himself fell due to an ankle injury in late February and his contract with the Spanish was not renewed. For the 2013/14 season he returned to Zalgiris Kaunas.

National

Martynas Pocius played as a junior with Lithuania, the U-18 European Championship in 2004 and the U-20 European Championship in 2006. Both tournaments he finished as best scorer of his team. With the senior team, he participated in the 2010 World Cup and won the bronze medal. Pocius banns was part of Lithuania for the 2011 European Championships in his own country, his team finished the tournament in fifth place.

Trivia

At the age of 13 years Martynas Pocius pulled in an accident with a milling machine, a partial amputation of three fingers of the left hand. In a complicated operation could be reconstructed two of them, but the middle finger he lost permanently.
