Maruti Zen (1993-2006)

The Maruti Zen is a small car manufactured in India the company Maruti Suzuki India.

It is largely identical to the one planned as a world car the 1994 Suzuki Alto, which was also manufactured by Maruti. The Zen is only five doors available. The four-cylinder petrol engine with 993 cc displacement and an output of 40 kW ( 54 PS) also was reported by Suzuki and was also used in the export version of the Alto.

Appeared in 1998 with the Zen D of the first Maruti car with a diesel engine. The engine came from Peugeot, made 42 kW (57 hp) from a displacement of 1527 cc and was also used in the Peugeot 106 and the Citroën AX. The production of the diesel version was discontinued in 2005.

Today, the Maruti Zen in India and the neighboring countries of South Asia and parts of Africa and South America will be offered. In some countries it is called Alto.

The Zen can be viewed as a more modern version of the Maruti 800, which was discontinued in 2013. The Zen is compared to the 800 spacious and powerful, offering five instead of four seats.

In December 2006, Maruti introduced the new model of the Zen in India. The new Zen differs from its predecessor, particularly with its contemporary design and spacious interior. The new engine is a four-valve engine with 1061 cc and now makes 64 hp. The top model of the new Zen is to have now with driver's airbag and ABS. Air conditioning is in all models of the new Zen standard. The new Zen is offered cheaper by about 2,000 EUR against the new Suzuki Swift, and is thus about as much as the Hyundai Santro, which is, however, in almost unchanged form since the mid- 1998 on the market. The new Zen granted in India a good chance to join the sales success of its predecessor.
