Marvelise

Marvelise is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Marvelise is located on 379 m, 9 km north of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs and about 15 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in a hollow in the hills north of Doubstals, between the heights of Chanois in the west and Hautes -Roches in the east.

The area of ​​4:21 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills north of Doubstals. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Marvelise in which springs from the Scey and provides drainage to the north- west to Ognon. After south passes over a saddle (385 m) to the valley of the Ruisseau d' Onan ( in the catchment area of the river Doubs ), whose source is also at the church floor. Underpinning the valleys on both sides of Causse, to the east of the Hautes -Roches (up to 500 m) and to the west by Chanois, on the 516 meters, the highest elevation of Marvelise is achieved. These plateaus are mostly covered by forests.

Neighboring communities of Onan are Gémonval in the north, east and south, and Onan Courchaton and Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Marvelise belonged to the rule Granges, which came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Marvelise is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes des Isles du Doubs.

Attractions

The Church of the Nativity de la Vierge was extensively rebuilt in the early 18th century and has a Gothic choir. The old town is characterized by different farmhouses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Population

With 153 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Marvelise one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 195 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Marvelise was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Longevelle -sur -Doubs after Crevans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 18 km.
