Marx Reichlich

Marx Abundant (* 1460 in Brixen, . † vermutl 1520 ) was a South Tyrolean painter of Christian art. He worked mainly in South Tyrol and Tyrol.

Life and work

Marx worked from 1494 to 1508 in Salzburg and it is assumed that he was a pupil of Friedrich Pacher and co-workers of Michael Pacher, who influenced him greatly, collaborated on the altar of the Franciscan church in Salzburg and his workshop continued. He developed an independent coloristic, later also with the Venetian and Lombard influences.

In 1508 he restored the frescoes on Roncolo Castle (South Tyrol ). The begun by him high altar for Holy blood was completed by W. Maller. Around the year 1500, he made the altar in St. Peter in Salzburg. Today, parts are in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere and privately owned. After 1500 two Predellenflügel originated in Wilten with Adoration of the Shepherds, Adoration of the Magi, Visitation and St. Anne.

Master of Angrerbildnisses

Abundant Marx is today identified with the master of Angrerbildnisses, a painter of this portrait, which is notably not known for sure.
