Mary Anderson (actress, born 1918)

Mary B. Anderson ( born April 3, 1918 in Birmingham, Alabama, † April 6, 2014 in Burbank, California; born Bebe Anderson ) was an American actress.

Life and career

Mary Anderson wanted to play the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind, but had to be content in the film with the small supporting role of Maybelle Merriwether. In the 1940s, she established herself as a supporting actress. On the side of Jennifer Jones in 1943, she played in the drama The Song of Bernadette. The greatest success of her career was celebrating Anderson a year later in the Hitchcock thriller The lifeboat in the role of a nurse. From the mid- 1950s, she appeared mainly in television productions. She played in 1964 in twelve episodes of the TV series Peyton Place. In 1980, she retired from acting. Mary Anderson played in a total of 31 films and 22 television productions.

Mary Anderson, their first marriage from 1940 to 1950 with Leonard Behrens, she was divorced. In her second marriage, she was married from 1953 until his death in 1974, with cinematographer Leon Shamroy. Mary's only child died in July 1956 at the age of two months. Her younger brother was actor James Anderson ( 1921-1969 ). Mary Anderson has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1646 Vine Street ) for her film work.
