Mary Chase (playwright)
Mary Coyle Chase McDonough ( born February 25, 1907 in Denver, Colorado, † October 20, 1981 ibid ) was an American writer.
Her mother was of Irish descent, which may explain the love of the author for Irish mythology. After college and working as a journalist, she married in 1928 the newspaper reporter Robert Lamont Chase. As a housewife and mother, she began to write plays.
After two largely ignored pieces she succeeded in 1944 with my friend Harvey the breakthrough for which she also received the " Pulitzer Prize for drama " 1945. In New York alone, the play was performed in 1775 times. For two film versions (1950 and 1972 ), she wrote the screenplay.
