Mary Kaye

Mary Kaye ( born January 9, 1924 in Detroit as Mary Kaaihue, † February 17, 2007 in Las Vegas ) was an American musician and artist, with Hawaiian roots, which was particularly active in the 1950s and 1960s. It is counted along with Louis Prima, one of the founders of the Las Vegas lounge phenomenon.

Life

Mary Kaye was born in 1924 as Mary Kaaihue as a descendant of the last Hawaiian Queen Liliuokalani. Her family was already firmly rooted in show business.

In 1956 she made with her band for the Fender company an advertising campaign for a new Stratocaster guitar, which became known under the name The Mary Kaye Strat later.
