Mary Lou Retton

Mary Lou Retton, married Mary Lou Kelley, ( born January 24, 1968 in Fairmont, West Virginia) is a former American gymnast.

Retton was one of the great stars of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. With their success, the 16 -year-old broke into the U.S. from a gymnastics boom. She won the gold medal in the all around, despite strong competition from Romania. The individual devices competitions she won silver in the horse jump and bronze respectively in the floor exercise and uneven bars. Success was rounded off by the silver medal with the U.S. team. Retton was elected at the 1984 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year, as well as by the Associated Press.

Following her Olympic success, she played minor roles in American TV series and movies such as Baywatch - The Baywatch, The Naked Gun 33 ⅓ and the spirits that I called .... In 1997, she was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
