Mary McDonnell

Mary Eileen McDonnell ( born April 28, 1952 in Wilkes -Barre, Pennsylvania ) is an American actress.

Career

McDonnell became known after she was hired in 1990 by Kevin Costner in the movie Dances with Wolves. Her role of a reared by Indians White earned her a nomination for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Previously, McDonnell had twenty years played theaters and was rarely seen on television.

Two years later, McDonnell also received an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her starring role in the drama Passion Fish by John Sayles. In 1996, she played the role of the First Lady in the movie Independence Day. For her guest appearance as Eleanor Carter on the television series ER, McDonnell was nominated for an Emmy in 2002. In the successful sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica, she played from 2003 to 2009 the President Laura Roslin. In 2008, she starred in the television series Grey's Anatomy with a guest appearance as Dr. Virginia Dixon, who suffers from Asperger 's syndrome.

From 2009 to 2012 she played the role of Captain Sharon Raydor, which it will also in the spin-off Major Crimes after the end of the series in The Closer.

McDonnell is married to actor Randle Mell. They live together in Pacific Palisades, a suburb of Los Angeles in California, and have two children together (* 1987 and * 1993).
