Mary Richmond

Mary Ellen Richmond ( * 1861, † 1928) was from 1893 to the Head of the Charity Organization Society ( COS) in Baltimore, USA. The semi-official representatives of the public poor relief and private organizations office in London was founded in 1869 and spread both in the UK and the U.S.. Here again mainly immigrant problems and poverty, which the COS accepted. From Richmond went from a new understanding towards poverty and neediness. Poverty is no longer justified with her in character, but Richmond makes the circumstances of poverty partly responsible. In 1917 she published her standard work of social work "Social Diagnosis", the Alice Salomon very impressed.
