Mary Victoria Douglas-Hamilton

Mary Victoria Douglas Hamilton ( born December 11, 1850, Hamilton Palace, † February 14, 1922 in Budapest) was Princess of Monaco.

She was the daughter of William Alexander Anthony Archibald (1811-1863), the 11th Duke of Hamilton, and his wife Princess Marie Amalie of Baden ( 1817-1888 ) at the Hamilton Palace.

On September 21, 1869 married in the castle of Marchais Prince Albert of Monaco, who ruled as Prince Albert I in 1889.

The marriage was not happy, the princess left Monaco a few months after the wedding and lived with her family abroad, mostly in Baden -Baden. There she gave birth to her son, Louis, later Prince Louis II, was born. Her husband met his son know until ten years later. In 1880, nine years before Prince Albert was, the marriage was annulled, and Mary Victoria married on June 2, 1880 in Budapest, the Hungarian prince Tasziló Count Festetics de Tolna ( 1850-1933 ). With him she had four more children:

  • Karola - Friederika (1888-1951)

Mary Victoria died on 14 February 1922 in Budapest and was buried there. She is the great-grandmother of Prince Albert II and by her second marriage also ancestress of the fashion designer Egon von Furstenberg and actress Ira von Fürstenberg.
