Marya Zaturenska

Marya Zaturenska ( born September 12, 1902 in Kiev, † January 19, 1982 in Shelburne Falls ) was an American writer.

Life

The Russian-born Zaturenska moved in 1910 to the USA and took there to study at the University of Wisconsin -Madison on. She received American citizenship in 1912 and married in 1925 the poet Horace Gregory.

Together with her husband she published several anthologies, including the 1946 work A history of American poetry, 1900-1940. Zaturenska became famous through 1937 brought out poetry book Cold morning sky, for which she was awarded the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for poetry.

In addition to numerous books of poetry, like Threshold and hearth (1934 ) or The listening landscape (1941 ), she wrote a biography in 1949, in which she described the life of Christina Georgina Rossetti. Her last work was published in the 1974 volume of poetry, The hidden waterfall.
