Maryland Toleration Act

The Maryland Tolerance Act ( 1649) was one of the first laws that explicitly tolerated other ( Christian ) denominations as the Church of England, and is, consequently, as a precursor of 1 Amendments of the U.S. Constitution later.

Due to the multitude of Christian sects, who settled in the American colonies in the 17th century, such a tolerance policy was inevitable.
