Masakari

Masakari (Japanese钺) called in Japanese a large ax (commonly referred to as ono ) as they cut down the trees, or was formerly used as a battle-ax or for punishment.

Description

The blade of the Masakari is made of steel. She is single-edged, the blade is made in the shape of a half moon. Mounting on the shaft takes place with the aid of a rectangular eye. Opposite the blade a long, tapering spike is prepared which serves to penetrate armor. As a weapon, the Masakari was used by the Yamabushi monks as a battle-ax in battle. There are several versions that differ in length and appearance. This ax has been very rarely used in Japan.
