Masanori Tanimoto

Masanori Tanimoto (Japanese谷 本 正 宪, Masanori Tanimoto, born April 16, 1945 in Nishiwaki, Hyōgo Prefecture) is a Japanese politician and since 1994, Governor of Ishikawa Prefecture. Since 2005 he has been Vice President of the National Governor Conference ( Zenkoku Chijikai, NGA).

Tanimoto, a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Kyoto University, worked from 1968 for the Ministry of self-government. During his time at the Ministry, he worked among others for the administrations of Ibaraki and Shimane and as auxiliary mayor ( joyaku ) of the city of Miyazaki. In 1991 he became vice governor of Ishikawa.

When the governor of Ishikawa, Yōichi Nakanishi, 1994, died before his eighth term in office, Tanimoto be applied to his successor. In the election on 27 March 1994, he was able to just push through with the support of several parties ( Shinseitō, Kōmeitō, Japan New Party, DSP, SPJ ) against the LDP -based Hiroshi Ishikawa. He was last re-elected with the support of SDP as well as the local prefectural associations of LDP, Kōmeitō and Democratic Party 14 March 2010 for a fifth term in office.
