Mascali

Mascali is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 13,866 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Mascali is located 34 km north of Catania on the eastern slope of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in paper mills.

The place has connection to the ferrovia circumetnea.

Borders the following municipalities: Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, Giarre, Piedimonte, Riposto and Sant'Alfio.

History

The village was founded in the Middle Ages. This place was destroyed in 1928 by an eruption of Mount Etna. The place was built in a safe place again. The train station is so far the ferrovia circumetnea outside the town.
