Mascalucia

Nicolosi is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 30 516 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Nicolosi is located 16 km north of Catania on the southern slope of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and in the craft.

The neighboring municipalities are Belper, Catania Gravina di Catania, Nicolosi, Pedara, San Pietro Clarenza and Tremestieri Etneo.

History

The village was founded in the late Middle Ages. In the 1818 earthquake the city was destroyed and then rebuilt.
